Their Diet
Grass and Bugs
The main diet of chickens like ours that get to range freely is grass and
bugs. They nibble at grass, clover, wild onions, and whatever other plant
suits their fancy. They dig up worms, find crickets, and keep the tic
population down. Our farm is free of pesticides and herbicides, so
what they scrounge up hasn't been tainted by chemicals.

sunflower seeds.
Meal Worms
We have started raising mealworms to provide extra protein during
fall/winter months where insects are harder for them to find.
Milk Kefir
Kefir is an excellent source of benefical bacteria, calcium, magnesium,
phosphurus.. all sorts of good stuff. They love this treat.
Scraps
They get all sorts of scraps, from leftover popcorn to apple cores. They
tend to come running up when we open the door, expecting a treat =o)
